An AI tool compared the two largest health insurers - the way a member of the public might.

Here's what Ai got wrong.

  1. It missed the most important difference between the two policies. Something called a "guaranteed wording" — a promise about what your cover can't be downgraded over time (removal of benefits from your cover)
  2. It compared the wrong version of a policy. It used an outdated document, even though cover can change meaningfully between versions.
  3. It missed documents that actually decide whether a claim gets paid. One insurer has separate rulebooks affecting what's covered, and the AI didn't know they existed.
  4. It got a major cover difference flat-out wrong. One insurer only covers certain expensive medicines for cancer, not other serious illnesses — and the AI missed this entirely. With Cancer being so commonly diagnosed - you want assurance in this area!
  5. It left out cover that's actually included, missing a whole category of chemotherapy-related benefits. Again, with Cancer being so commonly diagnosed - you want assurance in this area.
  6. It misapplied a policy rule, making a limitation that affects the whole policy look like it only applied to one small section.
  7. It got a number wrong— saying one benefit lasted four years, when it's actually three.
  8. It said a benefit didn't exist when it did, simply because it was listed under a different name.
